Sail, Surf, Kayak in the Extreme

Industrial thick wetsuits at the ready as you prepare to ride the best right-hand breaking wave on the planet. Thurso East’s shelven reef and deep bay combine to create an imposing wave that reduces veterans of Bondi and Hawaii to gibbering wrecks of surf-dude excitement. jayne-experiences.blogspot.com

Push yourself harder than you ever imagined possible with a sea kayaking adventure around our dramatic coastline. Or travel to Thurso to enjoy Scotland’s prime surfing venue on unspoiled beaches. Take the opportunity to sail in uncrowded waters and enjoy the beauty of the coastline from the sea.

The powerful waves which roll in from the Atlantic have been compared to those of Hawaii, although we’re not going to claim the same temperatures. Thurso East is a fast point/reef break which is the venue for international competition. The Thurso East wave was first surfed by famous Scottish surfer, Malcolm Findlay after he returned from a four year stint with the French Foreign Legion in 1974. Findlay was known to have surfed waves of up to 50 feet here.
